RECREATIONAL
The Central Michigan AYSO Region 862 is no longer able to offer soccer opportunities in the area. In response, DSC remains dedicated to supporting soccer at all levels, and is stepping up to help fill this gap in our community.
Starting in Fall 2025, DSC will launch a new recreational division to provide accessible soccer opportunities for players. While details are still being finalized, we are planning options for players born in 2017 and older.

For our younger players (non-elite 2018 and younger), DSC is exploring options to possibly support this group with 4x4 play but nothing is in place yet. Stay tuned to our Facebook page to watch for announcements. If this does become an option it will be announced in July there.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
SHOULD MY PLAYER TRY OUT FOR DSC?
DSC supports the option for players in age groups 2010-2017 (non-HS) to consider trying out for a DSC Select team. These teams play in competitive leagues in the fall and spring. It is not guaranteed that all players who try out will receive an offer to play for the club.
If your player prefers a more relaxed environment or you are not yet ready for a commitment to play in a competitive league, we have a recreational option for players. To opt into this, simply click the yellow button above to go to the Playmetrics registration page. Registration for recreational play will continue to be open through the August 17.
For younger players or families looking for more local, introductory soccer options, we encourage you to explore community programs, such as DARA.
WHAT ABOUT MY CHILD WHO WAS BORN IN 2018?
DSC supports national and Michigan youth soccer development, which encourages frequent ball touches, developmental training, and small 4v4 play in a recreational format (similar to programs such as AYSO and DARA).
For the 2025 - 2026 season, DSC is exploring the possibility of forming an elite 2018 team. This team would play one age group up, in a 7v7 format. While this opportunity may be appropriate for some advanced players, it presents unique challenges for both players and their parents.
For players born in 2018 or later, we recommend considering local recreational options, such as DARA.

WILL DSC OFFER AN AYSO-SYTLE PROGRAM FROM PLAYERS IN AGE GROUPS 2018 AND YOUNGER?
DSC is currently evaluating options to offer an AYSO-style program for players who would prefer, or be better suited to, a recreational experience in order to encourage development. We will continue to explore possibilities and keep the community informed. However, at this time, we do not have anything to offer for these age groups.
These types of programs depend heavily on volunteer support. If you are interested in helping us bring this vision to love, we'd love to hear from you. Please contact us to get involved!

WHAT IF MY CHILD DOES NOT MAKE A SELECT TEAM?
You may choose to explore the recreational option. Registration for recreational play will be open through the summer.

WHAT IF MY CHILD MAKES A SELECT TEAM BUT DECIDES THE COMMITMENT IS TOO MUCH?
You may choose to explore the recreational option, which is less commitment. Registration for recreational play will be open through the summer.

WHAT WILL THE COMMITMENT LOOK LIKE?
DSC is planning on playing in the new recreational league division for Western Suburban Soccer League West (WSSL West). Play for this division is supposed to involve teams near the Greater Lansing Area. We are committed to trying to limit travel for these teams. At this time, we are unsure on the travel commitment, as it depends on which other community teams also partake in WSSL West. We reserve the right to change leagues if we find it does not best meet the needs of our families.

When the fall and spring seasons commence, practice will be occur once per week, with 7 - 8 games in the fall and 7 - 8 games in the spring. Typically 4 games in each fall and spring season will be away games. Practice days will depend on coach schedules and field availability. Most games will be on the weekends, however midweek games may occur.

HOW MUCH WILL THIS COST?
The cost for our recreational league is $150 for the full year - including both spring and fall seasons. There is no refunds or prorating if a child does not participate in the spring. There will be an option to sign up just for spring during the winter months if there is room on the teams. This cost includes registration fees, ref fees, and field rental/maintenance fees. There will be a separate process for families to follow to purchase 2 jerseys for their uniform (home and away). The cost of these has not yet been determined, we are working with vendors to find a cost-effective and nice option for jerseys for this league. Any shorts and socks may be worn. Shinguards will be mandatory, cleats preferred. We are looking for a league sponsor to put a logo on the shirts which would further lower these uniform costs. Contact us if you are interested in such a sponsorship opportunity.

WHEN WILL I FIND OUT WHICH TEAM MY CHILD IS ON AND WHO THE COACH IS?
Team formations will be determined later this summer. Depending on the number/age/gender of the players registered, it is possible that some age groups could be combined and some co-ed teams be formed. We will try to have a team available for all players interested, but it is possible that there may not be enough players in some age groups. You will be contacted and refunds provided if this does occur. Coaches will be volunteers, usually from a parent on each team.

We rely heavily on our volunteer coaches, so if you are interested in coaching one of the teams, we'd love to hear from you. Please contact us to get involved!
