DeWitt Soccer Club

January 15, 2003

Members present: Pat Schafer, Ruth Garland, Karen Eible, Chuck Murdoch, Bruce Thomas, Larry Tate, Dave Barnhill, Mark Kellogg, Angie Schneider.

Treasurer's Report: Approved as written. Motion to Approve made by Ruth Garland, Seconded by Karen Eible. Motion approved.

Secretary's Report: No Report.

Training and Education: --- Discussion in regard to SoccerZone camp in June after school is over. Motion by Bruce Thomas to run camp again this year same weekend as last year was made, seconded by Karen Eible. Motion approved. Discussion to have a pre-tryout camp for high school age players. Pat Schafer and Chuck Murdoch will communicate with Dan Jury at SoccerZone to run the camp.

---- Discussion of adding a trainer to work with Coaches and Players at all levels. Cost of this was approximated at $20,000 to be divided at the players cost.

AYSO: No representative present.

CASL: --- They will have a community night on February 10th for all Coaches/teams to turn in the paperwork required for registration. All of DeWitt teams will be checked and sent in together. This will be held at the Media Center in the Jr. High from 7:30-9:00 PM. Ruth Garland and Wendy Embs to be present.

--- Each team will be required to turn in the name of a Parent Representative along with email, phone and address.

--- Coaches meeting will be the 19th of March.

--- CASL has approved Dual Registration up to 3 players on a team. These rules can be refined by the individual community. The player may play 2 games per day ifthe Premier game is first. Discussed the possibility of schedule conflicts and not cutting a player to add a dual participant.

--- Referees must have risk management cards. They have been encouraged to talk more during game time. They need to explain penalties. Coaches should talk to refs first if conflicts arise. Coaches need to verify the Game Reports before turned in to be sure that all information including scores has been filled out correctly. Referees will try to enforce the "No foul" language rule. New Premier rule on a Yellow card. The ref doesn't have to send player off the field. It will be at the coaches discretion.

High School: --- Dave Barnhill to schedule U-16 tryouts at the Summit and/or SoccerZone. Mark Kellogg will check for any interest in U-19 team

Fields: --- Status unchanged.

--- Dave Barnhill made a suggestion as to trying to raise money for 3 sided soccer dug out structure from the DeWitt Boosters. There is a form to fill out and apply for money.

--- Chuck Murdoch will check with the Township on the short-sided fields.

Promotions: --- GOLF OUTING has been confirmed for the same date as last year. Also confirmed Kirk Sherman's help with door prizes. Discussion of adding sponsors to the program. Karen Eible has contacted Galyon's for sponsorship and is waiting to hear back from them. We discussed asking them to be Drink and/or Food sponsor. She suggested sending Thank-you letter to previous sponsors and requesting support for this year's program. A follow up phone call will be made. This strategy will be used for the 4X4 tournament also. Mark Kellogg has offered to help write the letter.

--- 4X4 Tournament will be the weekend before school starts. Same discussion as above. The letters need to go out earlier. The quantity of programs needs to increase this year so we have enough for one per player. Also need for commitment from each team and mandating a representative from each team be at the 4X4 planning meetings along with requirements for volunteers at concession and providing referees.

New Business: A lengthy discussion in regards to the need for a letter to the parents of Soccer players regarding the future of Soccer in DeWitt and need for more board members and involvement. The possibly of a newsletter was also brought up. It would contain all the current information of meetings, games, etc. as well as information on Fund raising. We could express the need for more involvement and requirements of each team to provide this. Angie Schneider suggested trying to get email addresses from Coaches and/or team managers for the parents of players for possibility of communicating via email. Karen Eible will look into putting together a newsletter.
